Mayoress and Mayors for the City of Essen

	The full-time Lord Mayor  Dr. Wolfgang Reiniger, for the first time directly elected by the citizens in 1999, directs the Council sessions, represents the City of Essen externally, and heads the administration. In its constituting session on 13 October 2004, the Council elected from among its members one mayoress and two mayors. They are honorary representatives of the Lord Mayor and support him in his tasks of representation and with the direction of Council sessions. They exercise their office in an honorary capacity and receive an expense allowance to reimburse them for their costs.
