The ARKA Kulturwerkstatt is a registered society for education, art, and culture. Since 1994, it has been located on the site of the Zeche Zollverein XII, a cultural monument of international standing.
ARKA offers creative courses for adults and young people, projects and art actions.

The "Essen Forum of Visual Artists" is the roof organization of the three assocations
- Kunstverein Ruhr (Ruhr Art Society)
- Ruhrländischer Künstlerbund (Ruhrland Artists Federation)
- Wirtschaftsverband bildender Künstler (Economic Association of Visual Artists)
The Kunstverein Ruhr - like the Ruhrländische Künstlerbund and the Wirtschaftsverband bildender Künstler - organizes highly qualified art exhibitions and art actions. In addition, the Kunstverein is active in the areas of art research as well as art creation and its promotion, organizes talks and discussions, study tours, and the like.
